Bedlington Colliery Methodist Church
Update
Church Hall Damage
We have recently found cracks appearing on the rear gable internal wall of the church hall. These have been monitored regularly since they were first observed in May/June however in the last month they have become progressivly worse. Over the last two or three weeks we have been aware of severe cracks showing on the outside wall also,
Following an inspection of the damage to the structure of the rear of the gable (stage) wall with a surveyor it was agreed to close the church hall within 9 metres of the wall with immediate effect for safety reasons. The cracks we suspect being due to subsidence so the Coal Board have been informed and are coming to investigate .
Unfortunately this means we have had to cancel our weekly luncheon club, youth club and badminton which require full use of the hall and kitchen. We will be able to continue to use the church as usual and for most other events as we do have access to the toilet block and old kitchen.
Please keep us in your prayers as we need all the spiritual support we can get at the moment as this has left us quite devastated.

Our Church life continues despite the set back of problems with the hall.
The Mother & Toddler Group and Slimmer’s World have transferred their activities into the church which means the people are getting used to church rather than the hall.
Coffee mornings are also being held in the church which has proven successful.
Our Christmas Fayre was well attended and raised over £600
Last month we had the children from Stead Lane First School hold their Harvest Festival Service as well having the normal baptismal and funeral services therefore in one week we had over 500 people use our church from the community,
The Coal Authority continue to investigate the cause of the problems with the Hall but they have slate wedged the cracks as a temporary measure to help re distribute the weight back into the building
The church is full as everyone enjoys the atmosphere and companionship of the Christmas Fayre
